Picture
I found a picture similar on the internet...couldn't find a pattern..so I made up my own!

Supplies needed:
Less than a skein for main color if doing a solid color elephant
Buttons for eyes (or safety eyes)
Stuffing-fiberfill
Darning needle
F hook

Terms used:
Ch=chain
Sc= single crochet
BLO=back loops only
Sc-dec=single crochet decrease over 2 stitches

Elephant is worked in a continuous spiral.  Use a stitch marker to mark each round end.

If you are going to change colors for each round, I would suggest you join each round end with a slip stitch, and ch 1 to begin next round changing color as you go

With F hook, and main color:
Starting at trunk and working towards rump of elephant

Ch 2
1)  6 sc in 2nd ch from hook  (6 sc)
2)   2 sc in each ch around  (12 Sc)
3)  (2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc)  repeat around  (18 sc)
4)  In BLO: sc in each sc around
Working in both loops now:
5)  (sc-dec, sc in next 4 sc) repeat around  (15 sc)
6)  sc in each sc around
7)  (sc-dec, sc in next 3 sc) repeat around  (12 sc)
8-16)  sc in each sc around
If you desire a longer trunk, add on extra rounds here, otherwise, continue on
17)  (2 sc in first sc, sc in next 3 sc) repeat around  (15 sc)
18-19)  sc in each sc around
20)  (2 sc in first sc, sc in next 4 sc) repeat around  (18 sc)
21)  sc in each sc around
22)  (2 sc in first sc, sc in next 5 sc) repeat around (21 sc)
23)  sc in each sc around
Trunk made, now onto the head
24)  2 sc in each sc around  (42 sc)
25-33)  sc in each sc around
34)  (sc-dec, sc in next 4 sc) repeat around  (35 sc)
35)  (sc-dec, sc in next 3 sc) repeat around  (28 sc)
36)  (sc-dec, sc in next  2 sc) repeat around (21 sc)
37) sc in each sc around
Head made, now onto body
38)  (2 sc, sc I next 2 sc)  repeat around  (28 sc)
39)  (2 sc, sc I next 3 sc)  repeat around  (35 sc)
Stuff head and insert safety eyes if using them.
40)  (2 sc, sc I next 4 sc)  repeat around  (42 sc)
41)  (2 sc, sc I next 5 sc)  repeat around  (49 sc)
42)  (2 sc, sc I next 6 sc)  repeat around  (56 sc)
43-53)  sc in each sc around
54)  (sc-dec, sc in next 6 sc) repeat around  (49 sc)
55)  (sc-dec, sc in next 5 sc) repeat around  (42 sc)
56)  (sc-dec, sc in next 4 sc) repeat around  (35 sc)
57)  (sc-dec, sc in next 3 sc) repeat around  (28 sc)
58)  (sc-dec, sc in next 2 sc) repeat around  (21 sc)
Starting stuffing body now, continue to stuff as you finish the rump
59)  (sc-dec, sc in next sc) repeat around  (14 sc)
60)  sc-dec around  (7 sc)
FO and weave in end.

Ears  (make 2)

Ch 3
1)  sc in 2nd ch from hook and in last ch from hook.  Ch1, turn
2)  sc across, ch 1 turn
Next step, you will be working along side and bottom of square just made
3)  Sc on side of sc just made, (figure 1 pic)  3 sc in next stitch side (the beginning ch) (figure 2 pic)  , 3 sc in next stitch, (this is the first ch made in your beginning chain 3), sc in side of next stitch. (this is the first sc you made on row 2)  Ch I, turn.  (figure 3 pic)

You have now crocheted around the sides and bottom of row 3.
You are now going to be working only on the sides and bottom of row 3.

12) sc in 10 sc, 3 sc  then sc in 18 sc, 3 sc, then sc in 10 sc. Ch1, turn (44 sc)
FO leaving long tail for sewing

Picture
Weave in all ends EXCEPT for the long tail you left.

Take darning needle and thread on tail.  You are going to weave the yarn through the bottom of the ear, and pull it in some.  You can pull it tight, or have larger ears.  I would recommend pulling it in, then holding it up to the elephant head to see how it looks.   Run the yarn through a few stitches to secure.  Use tail to sew to head of elephant.

Feet/legs  (make 4)

Ch 2
1)  6 sc in 2nd ch from hook
2)  2 sc in each sc around
3)  (2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc) repeat around  (18 sc)
4)  In BLO, sc in each sc around
5)  (sc-dec, sc in next 4 sc) repeat around  (15 sc)
6-7)  sc in each sc around.
FO leaving longer  tail for sewing.

Stuff lightly and sew to underside of elephant

Tail  (make 1)

Ch 7,
Sc in 2nd ch from hook, and in each of the next 3 ch’s, sc in last 2 ch’s from hook.
FO

Sew to rump of tail.

Take 2 or 3 strands of scrap yarn and tie onto end of tail.

Snip ends of scrap yarn.

Elephant done!

Terms used:
sc=single crochet
hdc= half double crochet
dc=double crochet
trc=triple crochet
sc-dec= single crochet decrease done over 2 stitches
slp st= slip stitch
FO= finish off, fasten off

Eye Patch (make 2)

With white, ch 2
1)     6 sc in 2nd ch from hook  (6 sc)
2)  2 sc in each sc around  (12 sc)
 3)  (2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc) repeat around (18 sc)
FO

Owl
Starting at bottom of owl and working your way up,
Ch 2

2)  2 sc in each sc around  (12 sc)
3)  (2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc) repeat around (18 sc)
4)  (2 sc in first sc, sc in next 2 sc) repeat around (24 sc)
5)  (2 sc in first sc, sc in next 3 sc) repeat around (30 sc)
6)  (2 sc in first sc, sc in next 4 sc) repeat around (36 sc)
(7-13)  sc in each sc around
14)  (sc-dec, sc in next 4 sc) repeat around  (30 sc)
15)  sc in each sc around
16)  (sc-dec, sc in next 3 sc) repeat around (24sc)
17)  sc in each sc around
Forming the ears,
18)   (hdc in first sc, dc in next, trc in each of next 2 sc, dc in next, hdc in next sc, sc in each of next 6 sc) repeat this sequence once more
FO
If using safety eyes, or embroidering eyeballs in, sew eye patches on now and insert safety eyes, or embroider eyes now.

I place eye patches starting at row 15 and working down.

Your 2 trc’s will form the sides of the owl, so find your center and place patches accordingly.

Stuff owl and pinch top together lining up the 2 trc at each end.  You now sew the 2 trc’s together, then the 2 dc, 2 hdc, onto the sc.  You are sewing the front and back together to form little ears in each corner.

Beak

With orange
Ch 2
1)6 sc in 2nd ch from hook
2-3)  sc in each stitch around
FO leaving longer tail for sewing
Sew beak right under eyes

Wing  (make 2)
With owl color, ch 5
1)  2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next 2 chs, 3 sc in last ch from hook.  Working on underside of ch, sc in next 2 chs, (these will be in the bottom of the previous 2 sc’s you made) sc in last ch (this is the first ch you 2 sc’d in)
You will now have what looks like an oval made up of 10 scs

2)  2 sc in each of the next 2 sc’s, sc in each of the next scs,  2 sc in next sc (this is the bottom tip of your wing)  sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in last sc  You should now have 14 sc.

3)  2 sc in each of the next 3 sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc (again, this is the bottom wing tip)  Sc in next 4  sc, 2 sc in last sc. Slp stch to next sc  (20 sc)

FO leaving long tail for sewing.

Sew each wing to the side of your owl, you are done!

This pattern has not been tested.  I wrote it up quickly.  Please notify me of any mistakes so I can fix them.  Thanks!!

Long time no posting!!!

Sorry I have been so long in posting!
I am trying to get back into the swing of things.
I have been working a lot...and not crocheting nearly as much as I'd like!

I thought I would share a few new things I have been working on in my spare time.
Picture
I found a picture of an owl similar to the green one on the end.  However, not being able to find a pattern, I came up with my own.
I have made a least a hundred of these little guys.  They have been many many gifts to family and friends.
I also had many go with a nurse to Mexico for operation smile!
i have expanded my colors of the owls since this pic was taken to include grey...and brown.  I will post a pic when I get more made up!

My other FAVORITE new project......
Picture
again, I found one similar to the multicolored elephant online... again...no pattern.  I made the striped one first, and my obsession for elephants exploded from there.  I have made easily 50+ elephants.    (more photos to come)
These 2 do not have the safety eyes, however, That is what I use 99% of the time so they are baby safe.
I love the fact that I crochet the trunk, head, and body all as one piece.  There are only 8 pieces to these little guys.
I can make the trunk longer also, so its more of a handle for little kids.
Everyone who has received one of these, absolutely loved it.  They are easy to fall in love with!

Teddy bear hat with ear

Feel free to sell any completed item made from this pattern!
Please do not sell pattern.

Hat size is 0-3 months depending on yarn used.

Supplies needed:
Small amounts of baby weigh yarn
F hook
Tapestry needle
Stitch Marker
Optional, ribbon for girl teddy hat

Terms used:
Ch 2
Sc= single crochet
Sc-dec = single crochet decrease
Slp st = slip stitch

This hat is really versatile.  If you want a smaller hat, stop a row or two  before row 11.  Rows 1-10 are your increasing rows.  If you want a bigger hat, turn row 11 into an increase row…. (2 sc, sc in next 10 sc)
If you want more of a brim to flip up, add on a few more rows.
The ears are adjustable also.  I added on optional extra rows to adjust ears for bigger hats.

Hat and ears are working in one continuous spiral.  Do not join row ends.  Instead, use a stitch marker to mark each row end.

I have been meaning to update for a few weeks now!!  I am crazy busy with work.  So sorry!

The party went fantastic!

Happy Birthday to my oldest and youngest girls!!!

She couldn't figure out what was going on... apparently, her friend figured it out

Her reaction when she figured out what it was.....

Picture
I threw her her set of keys with the key fob.....
Immediately, Becca and her friends ran outside to see which car it was.  After hitting the alarm button...she quickly found her car...

I hired a woman who does spray on tattoos to come out and tattoo the kids for a few hours.... It was DEFINITELY a hit!!

I am not sure all the parents were pleased with their kids returning home with tattoos.....:)

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH... its a secret!!

4/21/2009

Guess who is just turned 16?!?!?  Yes, my oldest is now a licensed 16 yr old!!  I certainly do not feel old enough to have a 16 yr old!!!

Her birthday was March 23....and she scheduled her driving test for that day.
Of course, the weather did NOT cooperate at all.  It was extremely windy and raining as well as sleeting.
Despite all this, she passed her test!!!

Here she is on Easter smashing confetti eggs on her sisters head.  (This is a tradition that we partake in at my in-laws home every Easter!)

Becca's birthday party is this coming Saturday.  Of course, I think every 16 yr old wants a car for their birthday... She is fortunate enough to get one.
We found a steal of a deal on a car locally... I am having a hard time keeping it a secret from her.

I am going to have to capture the look on her face when she gets the keys.

Honestly, this car is to help me out also.
Becca is in before school activities, as well as after school activities.
I wont have to be running her to and from school as much anymore!!
YEA ME!!
